In response to Pony Baseball changing the "age chart” for future seasons, LAYB has approved the following changes for a trial basis for the 2017 Fall and 2018 Spring seasons.  We still encourage families to play in the designated age bracket which can be seen in our website under information and then downloads, but modifications will be approved under the following situations.  Please contact the Player Agent after you sign up to indicate you are interested in having a play move up or down a division.

Playing “UP” a Division:

Parent should sign up at the age appropriate division, and then contact the Player Agent that their player would be interested in an evaluation at the next division up.  The player should plan on attending evaluations at both their age appropriate division and the higher division they would like to be evaluated for.

After the evaluation, the Player Agent, Division Commissioner and Managers of the higher division will determine if it is appropriate to have this player play in the higher level.  Among things being considered when playing up will be:

- the player is emotionally ready for the next level.
- mature enough to be around older players.
- will be able to handle the process and direction of the coaching, ie understand the concepts coached at this level.
- they are physically able to play at the higher level taking into account safety.        ·

If playing up, the player will be eligible for all-stars in the division they moved up to, but not in the age appropriate division that they did not play the regular season in.

Playing “DOWN” a Division:

Parent should sign up at the age appropriate division, and then contact the Player Agent that their player would like to play in the lower level division.

This is most appropriate for players whose birthdays are in May-August, and are being asked to skip a season of development.  Players should attend evaluations for both their age appropriate division, and the lower division they would like to remain in.

Players moving down should not be “dominant” in the lower division.  They will NOT be eligible for all stars.  The purpose of playing down is to put players with other players at the same skill level, to enjoy the sport, and safely continue their development.

After evaluation day, the Player Agent and Commissioners of both divisions will talk to the managers of both divisions to determine which would be the most appropriate division for the player.  After a decision has been the parents of the player will be notified which division they will be playing in.
