MUSTANG

'Power Rankings' are a method of ordering teams based on several key factors. The Win/Loss record plays a factor; however, a team's record can be misleading. Power Rankings give a little more insight to the strength of a team based on runs scored, runs allowed, differential, and more. PLEASE NOTE: The following rankings are for fun and will not be used to determine playoff seeding or final league standings. Enjoy and let the debate begin!

RANKINGS BASED ON GAMES THROUGH JUNE 3

1 63
(10-5-1)
The Reds close out the year in the #1 spot in the power rankings. They held on to win the NL title by 1/2 game. The Reds average 9.06 runs scored and allow only 7.13 per game. They have a first round bye in the playoffs and will await the winner of the Yankees and Braves.
2 60
(10-6)
The Padres strong finish vaulted them to #2 in our rankings. They ride a four game winning streak into the playoffs. The Pads are one of only two teams who average over 10 runs scored per game. Their +40 run differential is the best in the division.
3 58
(11-5)
Coach Gorman has the Halos on a tear! They closed the season winning 5 out of their last 6 games and stole first place away from the Red Sox. The Angels were the only team to reach 11 wins in the regular season. They will play the winner of the Twins and Phillies in their opening playoff game.
4 58
(10-5-1)
The Red Sox had a great season, but fell just short of first place. They had a great season; especially in the area of pitching and defense. The Red Sox are the only team who allows less than 6 runs per contest (5.75 per game). The Red sox +28 run differential can be directly attributed to their pitching.
5 51
(10-6)
The Mariners came out on the tail end of a great regular season pennant race. Unfortunately, their 3rd place finish takes away their shot at a first round bye. The Mariners will face the Dodgers in the first round. The M's beat the Dodgers 9-5 in their only match-up this season.
6 48
(9-7)
The Yankees are a dangerous team going into the playoffs. Their (9-7) record doesn't tell a true story as we feel they are a much better team. The Yankees boast one of the best pitching staffs in the division; allowing only 7.19 runs per game. If they win their opening game against the Braves, we feel they can give the Reds a run for their money in the 2nd round.
7 48
(8-7-1)
The Giants scored more runs than any other team in the division. They play the Rangers in the 1st round, which is no easy task considering the Rangers' above average pitching. If the Giants win, it would make for an intriguing 2nd round match-up with the Red Sox. The #1 ranked offense (Giants) against the #1 ranked defense (Red Sox).
8 31
(7-9)
The Twins played the spoiler role with their recent win over the Red Sox. That win knocked the Sox out of first place, but also showed the Twins are a contender in the playoffs. They can definitely put runs on the board, but will need to improve their pitching to make a run for the Mustang crown.
9 28
(7-9)
The Phillies enter the playoffs with a first round game against the Twins. These two teams are similar in that they both can put runs on the board; however, both have allowed more than they have scored. The Phillies' pitching is a bit stronger, where the Twins have the advantage at the plate. In the regular season, the Twins beat the Phillies 13-2.
10 23
(6-9-1)
The Rangers primary challenge this season has come on offense. They are tied with the Dodgers for the fewest runs scored per game (6.63 per game). If they can get hot at the plate their pitching is good enough to make some noise in the playoffs. The Rangers play the Giants in the first round. NOTE: The Rangers won their only match-up this season.
11 13
(3-13)
It's been a long season for the Braves, losing 13 games and allowing 11.25 runs per game. Their only wins came against the Dodgers (2) and the Phillies. The good news is anything can happen in this division and they have shown signs of being able to compete with the top teams. For example, they have played the #1 ranked Reds tough in both of their games. Don't count the Braves out!
12 10
(3-13)
The Dodgers have had an equally tough year; finishing last in runs scored and runs allowed. The good news?... they also have played well against some of the top ranked teams. Their three wins came against the Reds, Rangers and Twins. Hey... if you can beat the #1 ranked Reds you can beat anyone in this division!
